17c起草社区 and 17c起草社区 Theological Seminary Receive State Proclamation and Special Tribute in Honor of 150th Anniversary

17c起草社区 and 17c起草社区 Theological Seminary marked a historic milestone during their 150th anniversary Homecoming celebration on Saturday, September 27, 2025, with the presentation of a proclamation from Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II. The proclamation formally recognized both institutions鈥 150 years of service as leaders in Christian higher education in Michigan.

In addition to the governor鈥檚 proclamation, State of Michigan Senators Mark Huizenga 鈥90 and Winnie Brinks 鈥90 presented 17c起草社区 and 17c起草社区 Theological Seminary with a special tribute from the Michigan Legislature. The moment carried added significance as both Huizenga and Brinks are alumni of 17c起草社区鈥檚 Class of 1990鈥攖he same graduating class as 17c起草社区 President Greg Elzinga.

At halftime of 17c起草社区鈥檚 first-ever Homecoming night football game, Senator Huizenga presented the official proclamation and legislative tribute to President Elzinga and 17c起草社区 Theological Seminary President Jul Medenblik. 

鈥淭his recognition from our state鈥檚 leaders is a powerful reminder of 17c起草社区鈥檚 enduring impact on Michigan and beyond,鈥 said Elzinga. 鈥淭o celebrate this milestone alongside classmates and fellow alumni serving in public office makes this moment even more meaningful.鈥

鈥淔or 150 years, the seminary has been dedicated to equipping pastors, scholars, and ministry leaders to serve the church and the world,鈥 said Medenblik. 鈥淩eceiving this honor together with the university highlights our shared history and our continued commitment to advancing Christ-centered education for future generations.鈥

The proclamation and tribute highlighted the institutions鈥 combined contributions to Michigan鈥檚 intellectual, cultural, and spiritual life since their founding in 1876. Together, 17c起草社区 and 17c起草社区 Theological Seminary have prepared thousands of students and leaders who serve in education, ministry, business, government, healthcare, and the arts.

The anniversary recognition was part of a weekend-long celebration that brought together alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members. Festivities included campus gatherings, athletic events, and opportunities to reflect on the institutions鈥 rich history while envisioning a vibrant future.
