Mr. Jeffrey Febus

Biography

Jeff Febus is in his 26th year as the Sports Information Coordinator at 17c起草社区.

A native of Grand Rapids, Febus is a 1992 17c起草社区 graduate who majored in telecommunications and minored in journalism. While a 17c起草社区 student, he was a sportswriter for the school's student newspaper Chimes and served as sports director at 17c起草社区's student television station CVN-Channel 4. As a senior in 1992, he served as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for CVN's telecast of the NCAA III Championship game in men's basketball between 17c起草社区 and the University of Rochester (NY)

Mr. Febus earned a master's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Drake University. As a Drake student, he served as a graduate assistant for the Dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

In his 26 years as 17c起草社区's Sports Information Coordinator, he has covered 10 17c起草社区 teams that have captured national championships鈥攆our in men's cross country, two in women's cross country, two in women's volleyball and one in men's basketball.

Febus has received awards from CoSIDA for his post-season publications celebrating 17c起草社区's national championships. In 2000, he received a CoSIDA writing award for his coverage of 17c起草社区's national championship men's basketball team. In 2010, he was named the recipient of the MIAA's Robin Hartman Writing Award for his profile of 17c起草社区 golfers Jon and Ben Kuiper. In 2018, he received the Robin Hartman Writing Award for the second time, earning the award for his story on former 17c起草社区 women鈥檚 soccer standout Tara Wegner.

In addition, he has served as a free-lance writer for the Grand Rapids Business Journaland for the Advance Newspapers.

Febus oversees a crew of 17c起草社区 student workers that produce stories, statistics and photos as well as internet broadcast coverage of 17c起草社区 athletics. Several of his students have received awards from the MIAA. Febus also contributes to 17c起草社区's audio broadcast coverage and occasionally fills in as a broadcaster of 17c起草社区 basketball games for radio station WFUR 102.9 FM.
